Formed in Alabama, the Muscle Shoals Horns comprised of:
Harrison Calloway (trumpet, flugelhorn, piano and vocals) (b. Harrison Roy Calloway Jnr., 1941, U.S.A. d. 30th April 2016, Jackson, Mississippi, U.S.A.)
Harvey Thompson (saxophone, flute and vocals)
Charles Rose (trombone and vocals)
and
Ronnie Eades (baritone saxophone and vocals)
The Muscle Shoals Horns were a group, created from an ensemble of session musicians, based in Alabama.
They released three albums as a group, along with an additional album featuring Elton John and John Lennon in 1976, entitled ‘Elton John Band featuring John Lennon and the Muscle Shoals Horns’.

Their album releases were ‘Born To Get Down’ (in 1976), ‘Doin' It To The Bone’ (in 1977), and ‘Shine On’ (in 1983).
In their early days, Harrison Calloway, Ronnie Eades and Harvey Thompson met whilst at Tennessee State University in Nashville.
Charles Rose later joined the group in 1971.
They began performing with local groups live, after which they began working at the FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals at the end of the Sixties.
The Muscle Shoals Horns performed with an array of musicians including Bob Dylan, Bob Seger, the Osmonds, Joe Tex, Bobby Womack, Candi Staton, Frederick Knight, B.B. King, and Elton John.
As the Muscle Shoals Horns, their 1976 album ‘Born To Get Down’ featured the singles ‘Open Up Your Heart’ ‘Bump De Bump Yo Boodie’ (loosly based around the Equals dancer ‘Black Skinned Blue Eyed Boys’) and ‘Dance To The Music’.
Their 1983 album ’Shine On’ featured the much played ‘More Than Ever Now’.
After a break from performing, the group reunited at the time their early work began to be re-released on CD.
Harrison Calloway passed away in Jackson, Mississippi in 2016, following a stroke.
